COP31 opens in Antalya: what is at stake for Bangladesh
The 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31) runs from 9 to 20 November 2026 in Antalya, Türkiye. Türkiye hosts the conference and works in partnership with Australia on the negotiations, according to the UN Regional Information Centre.
For Bangladesh, the talks come as the government tries to turn climate plans into funded projects. At a Dhaka conference in October, Environment Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo called for climate justice on loss and damage and for more private investment in clean energy (our report). A BRAC University study released on 17 October puts the cost of the country’s health adaptation plan alone at about US$1.4 billion over five years, with US$520 million expected from development partners (our report).
What to watch: new climate finance pledges and how much reaches adaptation and loss and damage, how least developed and climate-vulnerable countries are represented in the final decisions, and any announcements on funding for Bangladesh.
